In order to get the most out of the NPL PowerSearch and Subject Search, we offer the following tips:
1. Please peruse the Subject Search in order to get an understanding of the subject and subhead categories that are available.
2. If you are trying to search by subject, you will get more thorough results by using the Subject Search.
3. To see what a particular author has written on a particular subject, use the PowerSearch and enter the author's last name and a subject term or keyword in the box labeled "all of the words".
4. To see what has been writen about a subject in a particular journal, use the PowerSearch and enter a subject keyword and a keyword from a journal title.
_____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________Examples of how the 3 boxes work in the
PowerSearch are given below:
Example: Christ
would return results that contain the word Christ
Example: Christ Deity
would return results that contain both the words Christ AND Deity
_____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
Example: Deity of Christ
would return only results that contain the phrase "Deity of Christ"
(If you try this particular phrase it would return no entries because that
exact phrase does not occur in any entries in the
database. However, if you used the Subject Search, you would see
"Jesus Christ" is a subject and "Deity of" is a subheading
under the heading of "Jesus Christ". There are, in fact, some entries
under that heading/subheading combination that do not contain the exact phrase "Deity of Christ".)

The wildcard in the PowerSearch is the %.
You can use it before or after a string of characters in any
of the boxes.
